Brendan Fraser gives major update on ‘The Mummy’ movie

Brendan Fraser says the long-awaited fourth film in The Mummy franchise is finally moving forward — and this time, it’s the movie he’s been hoping to make.

Speaking to the Associated Press, the actor revealed that the upcoming installment will “give the fans what they want.”

Fraser explained that despite the success of the original trilogy, the continuation he envisioned never materialised. “The one I wanted to make was never made,” he said.

Reflecting on the 2008 sequel The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, he added, “I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone movie… We picked up and did what we do with a different crew on deck and gave it our best shot. But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call.”

He continued, “Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”

Momentum around the franchise picked up again following a cast reunion in July. Fraser, Patricia Velásquez, John Hannah and Oded Fehr reunited at Fan Expo Denver on July 6, marking 26 years since the original 1999 release.

Rachel Weisz and Arnold Vosloo were not present, though multiple outlets report that Weisz is currently in talks to return for the new film.

The upcoming project is expected to be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo behind Ready or Not, the recent Scream films and Abigail. Plot details and a release timeline remain under wraps.
