Charli XCX and Taylor Swift might have an ongoing feud but they are united in Luigi Mangione’s playlist.
The 27-year-old murder suspect, who has been behind the bars at Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, has become the talk of the town once again after one of his letters went viral because of his striking admission about music.
Mangione, who became a social media sensation after he was arrested under suspicion of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is charged for second degree murder.
Spending his birthday in prison, he wrote a letter to an undisclosed addressee in which he wrote, “Last week, I downloaded a bunch of Taylor Swift and Charli XCX onto my tablet.”
Mangione elaborated, “I’ve never really listened to either of them, but some phony list of my favorite music circulated on social media… Rather than be a buzzkill and set the record straight, I figured I’d see what all the hype was about.”
He continued, “So I’m walking laps on the top tier of my unit listening to cardigan by TSwift, when one of the other inmates, ‘King,’ calls me over to see what I’m listening to. He scolds me for a while, then replaces all my music. Now I listen to Lil Durk.”
The mention of two feuding pop superstars in the same sentence sent social media sleuths wild as they responded to the news on X, with one writing, “Not gonna lie, Luigi’s jail playlist slaps harder than most people’s free-world playlists. Imagine having Taylor Swift on repeat behind bars… that’s one way to shake it off.”
Another quipped, “Nothing like Swift and Charli XCX to make a cell feel like Coachella,” while a third chimed in, “I need to know if anyone’s updated him on the lore [crying emoji].”
“Fresh out the slammer and no body no crime must’ve hit different in that cell,” someone wrote sarcastically, mentioning Swift’s songs.
One joked, “i want to hear his thoughts on actually romantic,” referring to Swift’s diss track about the Brat hitmaker.
While another wanted to know what he thought of Charli XCX’s song about the Life of a Showgirl songstress, sympathy is a knife.
This comes after Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, also reacted to the Swift-Charli feud, on Hasan Minhaj’s podcast.
When asked about his opinion on the drama, the duke was rendered speechless, as he seemed to be clueless about the latest pop-culture debate.
