Nicole Kidman sparks buzz with milk-inspired nod to viral ‘Babygirl’ scene

Nicole Kidman turned heads at the 2025 National Board of Review Gala in New York on Tuesday night when she downed an entire glass of milk during her acceptance speech for the Best Actress award.

The Hollywood icon was honored for her performance in the age-gap romance film Babygirl, which has been making waves since its Christmas Day release.

Kidman, who was dressed in a black gown with white detailing, received the award from her The Perfect Couple co-star Liev Schreiber.

During her speech at Cipriani 42nd Street, the actress raised a glass of milk to the audience before drinking it all in one go, a move that left some in the crowd puzzled.

According to Daily Mail, the gesture was a clever homage to a now-viral scene from Babygirl, in which Kidman’s character, Romy, who was a married company boss and shares a charged moment with her young intern, Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson.

In the scene, Samuel orders a glass of milk for Romy at a bar, and she boldly drinks it as he watches, setting the stage for their steamy affair.

Meanwhile, Kidman later explained that milk plays a symbolic role throughout the film, representing the power dynamics in the relationship.

As per the publication, the actress revealed in an interview that she drank over 15 glasses of milk while filming the iconic bar scene.

Moreover, Kidman praised the film for its bold narrative and said she was drawn to the story for its unique voice.

In regard to this, she shared in an interview, “It’s exciting and pushes boundaries,” while adding that working with a female director helped her navigate the film’s intense scenes with care.
