Let’s be honest: passion has left the chat long before many of us realised. Busy schedules, constant stress and chaotic personal lives have somewhat become the norm. In between demanding jobs, family responsibilities and poor lifestyle choices, health takes a back seat. This includes sexual health; however, it is one area that is constantly overlooked. Most of us are running on fumes by the time we make it to bed, and libidos become collateral damage. While several factors contribute to this, eating the right foods can enhance your sex life. Here are three science-backed foods that may act as aphrodisiacs. Take a look.
Oysters
Oysters are more than a delicacy. They have long been considered an aphrodisiac. This seafood is rich in zinc, a compound linked to increased blood flow. Zinc can regulate testosterone levels and also improve male fertility. A 2018 review found that zinc deficiency can affect testosterone levels. Interestingly, oysters contain more zinc than other foods. In fact, one serving alone provides 291% of your recommended daily value of zinc.
Berries
Most of us know that berries are superfoods, but did you know that they can enhance your sexual health? A 2016 study from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and Harvard University, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that berries are linked to reduced erectile dysfunction. The researchers found that eating foods rich in certain flavonoids is associated with a reduced risk of erectile dysfunction in men, with the greatest benefit seen in those under 70. The anthocyanins found in blueberries, cherries, blackberries, radishes and blackcurrants offered the greatest benefits, even in preventing the condition. The researchers also found that a higher total fruit intake was associated with a 14% reduction in the risk of erectile dysfunction. When flavonoid-rich foods are combined with exercise, the risk is reduced by 21%.
Nuts
Go nuts, quite literally. Nuts can help improve sexual function. Eat your walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts. A 2019 study from Universitat Rovira i Virgili, published in the journal Nutrients, found that consuming 60 grams of nuts a day improves sexual function. Yes, that’s right. The researchers found that adding walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds to your diet can improve sexual desire and orgasm quality. These foods are not miracle cures, but adding them to your diet may help. To get things going, it is also important to address the risk factors for sexual and erectile dysfunction, such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, a lack of physical exercise, stress and an unhealthy diet.Note: The information provided in this article is for educational purposes only and is not intended as medical advice.
