Much like Hoover’s other works, Verity took the world by storm, especially after it gained traction on BookTok.
Originally self-published in 2018, the novel quickly became a bestseller, with over 2 million copies sold.
Now, it’s set to join the ranks of the most anticipated adaptations of 2025.

The Plot of Verity: A Tale of Suspense and Dark Secrets

The movie will follow the story of Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), a struggling author who’s given the rare opportunity to finish the book series of famous but paralyzed writer, Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway).
Lowen moves into the Crawford family home, where she soon discovers a chilling manuscript that suggests Verity is a dangerous sociopath.
As the tension between Lowen and Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), Verity’s husband, grows, she begins to question whether Verity’s paralysis is real—and whether she can trust anyone in the house. Think of it as Jane Eyre meets psychological thriller.
Who’s Who in Verity?
Dakota Johnson will portray the lead character, Lowen Ashleigh, while Josh Hartnett stars as Jeremy Crawford. Anne Hathaway takes on the role of the enigmatic Verity. The ensemble cast also includes Ismael Cruz Cordova, Irina Dvorovenko, Lou Martini Jr., Michael Abbott Jr., K.K. Moggie, and Brady Wagner in key supporting roles.

When Will Verity Be Released?
Filming for Verity is currently underway as of March 2025, though no official release date has been confirmed yet.
