The Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh is set to host the Ziro Festival of Music from September 25 to 28, 2025. Bobby Hano and Anup Kutty (guitarist of Menwhopause) established it in 2012. The festival aims to provide an authentic platform for independent artists amidst the scenic beauty of northeastern India.

The Apatani community is a central aspect of the festival. They host guests in homestays, run craft stalls and serve delicious local cuisine.

Tickets and Permits

  • Full Four-Day Pass: Rs 9,000
  • Single-Day Passes: Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000

The passes can be bought on the official website.

Entry Permits: All Indian citizens (except Arunachal natives) require an Inner Line Permit (ILP). Foreign nationals must secure a Protected Area Permit (PAP).

Budget

For a typical four-day visit, a trip to Arunachal Pradesh for the Ziro Festival of Music costs range from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000, depending on your comfort preferences. Camping on-site with basic tents starts at around Rs 500–Rs 800 per night. Homestays and guesthouses will cost Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per night.

Travel

By Air: Nearest reliable airports are Guwahati and Itanagar.

By Rail: Disembark at Naharlagun station, about three hours from Ziro. Overnight trains run from Guwahati.

By Road: Taxis and shared vehicles connect Guwahati to Ziro. The journey takes about seven hours. Buses and cabs via Itanagar are also options.

Connectivity And Packing Tips

In terms of connectivity, expect a patchy mobile network. You can download essential offline resources before arrival.

Some of the things you must pack include:

  • Waterproof shoes and a warm jacket, as nights can be chilly
  • Rain poncho or gumboot,s as monsoon rains are possible
  • Biodegradable wipes, reusable water bottle,
  • Headlamp/torch
  • Cash, as ATMs are rare in this region
  • Portable charger

After the festival, you can also visit the Tarin fish farm to see traditional rice and fish cultivation methods, hike to Kile Pakho Ridge for panoramic sunrise and sunset views and explore Apatani villages like Hong, Hija, and Duta.
